How do I convert my pull chain light fixture to a standard fixture?
So, here is the deal….
I’m in Columbus, OH and my house was built in 1947. The upstairs light fixture was a simple pull string fixture without any wiring to a switch. We have wanted to put up a new modern light fixture, but we can barely find a pull chain fixture let alone anything substantial and modern.
We are not interested in running a line to a switch, because the way our ceiling is structured we would have to do a lot of damage to the ceiling (as a professional electrician advised). We started thinking a touch system or remote system from a fan would work, as a guy at home depot informed us about, but since we last talked to that person we haven’t found anyone else who knew anything that could help us execute it.
We have very low ceilings up there (about 7.5 feet in the center and then the roof comes down on the sides) so a fan is NOT an option. Any ideas from you experts out there?? We’ve been trying to figure out this problem for over 2 years!!
I’d have a switch wired. Any good electrician will have tools and patience to fish wires through the ceiling and walls without doing any damage (or minimal). The only damage is that he may have to cut a couple small holes in the wall for access so he can stick his hands or tools in there in order to move/pull the wire through. They can be easily patched and painted afterward.
