Old Fashion Popcorn Popper?

Has anyone ever used on of these? It is like the ones at School functions, but I purchased my mother the larger model of the Old Fashion Popcorn popper from Bed Bath and beyond. The machine does not require any special popcorn but the seeds we used are not working well, do you have any suggestions?
We actually have tried newer seeds and a different kernel. I just wasn’t sure if there was a special type of popcorn made especially for these type of machines.

the seeds are probably old and have no more moisture (which, by expanding when it heats, is what makes them pop). My advice is to get new or different corn kernels.
