Cheap Pasta Machine
Polymer Clay?

Hello! I’m wanting to start using Polymer Clay to make some charms. Looks like there are several brands…..Sculpey to Premo. I want to be as economical as possible and wonder if Sculpey (cheapest) is just as good as the other brands?

Tell me about the brands and any pros and cons, please!!!

And since your here…..what are must have supplies? I am getting a pasta machine. Do I need an oven? What else?

Thanks! Can’t wait to get started. Brilliant medium to work with.

I love polymer clay! I use mostly Sculpey only because it’s a bit cheaper than Fimo.
The pasta machine you get at JoAnn fabrics or crafts stores are pricey so check in a housewares dept. I bought mine, brand new never used, at an auction for a buck! A small cheap toaster oven works just as great as any “clay oven”. That is what I use.
I want to give you a tip…when working with polymer clay. I make people that I make a bit at a time for handling purposes. I’ll bake the head, and then argain with the arms and then again with the legs…etc…BUT I found, that even though polymer clay can be baked numerous times, DO NOT OVER BAKE it. Don’t bake it too many times. My first man turned purplish gray and I wasn’t using any other color clay except flesh colored.
Also, use anything that will give your your desired end results. You don’t have to go the expensive route. Though I have many many sculpting tools over the past years I also rely on toothpicks, skewers, toothbrushes, craft sticks like popsickle sticks, wear plastic gloves too.
Have a great time with your beadwork and WELCOME TO POLYMER CLAY FUN!!!!
