Is there more than one way to “puff” dried, raw, whole wheat kernels?
I want to end up with a homemade version of “puffed wheat”. I do NOT have a hot-air corn popper but intuitively I think that’s going to be the only practical route. Also would like to hear any other recipes for using whole wheat berries, any kind of dish via any cooking/processing method. Serious answers only.
this is the only info i found. idk anything about it:
“How do cereal companies puff wheat, rice etc.?
The puffing process is done in ovens. The heat causes the prepared substance (rice, wheat, etc..) to expand. There are a couple of key components to making them successfully. Wheat puffs for example start off in a batter. The more air in the batter the better the puff. Eggs are put into the batter to help air into get into the batter while it is beaten. Large cereal companies will have perfected the process and have an automated system that makes the cereal for the. Here are a couple of links that will give you specific recipes that you can do at home I hope this answers your question. ”
